About
Me...
My work is
strongly influenced by the beauty of nature, combined with a
fascination for current interior design trends, and my
passion for vivid colour.
I have a significant interest in interior design that
enables me to develop, and be inspired by current styles and
colours, ensuring that my work is constantly progressing and
changing, bringing about the production of fresh artwork.
The style is bright, representational, and sharp with a
strong emphasis on form and a great enthusiasm for bold
colour. My subject matter is predominantly focused on
clean-edged horticultural designs, very much inspired by the
beauty of Georgia O’Keeffe’s large-scale floral paintings. I
have also produced many graphic, highly defined Venetian
watercolours, painted in situ to capture the atmosphere of
this unique and wonderful city. Both subject areas offer
very distinct shapes and compelling spaces, complimented by
my vivid, striking style.
Becoming an artist had been a lifetime ambition since the
age of five when I won a competition, and my picture of an
angel was made into Christmas Cards and sold nationally.
I obtained an honours degree in Fine Art and Psychology from
University College Worcester in 1999 and initially worked in
an IT office environment full time for three years. I became
increasingly frustrated that I was wasting my talents and
qualifications in an uncreative field of work, and having
just returned from a very inspiring week of painting in
Venice, I felt motivated to see if I could succeed as an
artist, so arranged to work part-time whilst setting up my
art business – White Rectangle Fine Art.
I became a
full-time artist following relocation to the East of England
in 2007.
